Hope Chapel initially began as a church plant out of California in 1993. The parent church, Hope Chapel West L.A., sent Scott and Sarah Dontanville along with one other family to establish a new church in the Colorado Springs area. They began meeting in the Dontanville's new home in Gleneagle, until they held their first public service at Explorer Elementary School.
With a handful of people to help, the target date was set for Easter Sunday, 1994. With God's blessing the church got off to a great start. Within three years we moved into another building, where a coffee house ministry was started and became the main outreach of the church. Soon we were holding two services and needed more space.
In the year 2000, God provided a vacant restaurant that we renovated into a coffee house atmosphere. Neon lights, coffee tables, barstools were anything but the traditional church environment yet they served God’s purpose for the time. It was at this location that God began to impress Scott with doctrinal clarity. It was the beginning of a new day and another move just a block south to our present location. Not only did God give us a new location to gather in but also renewed vision for the Word of God and the centrality of the cross.
Hope Chapel today is much different than in 2005, but the changes we have witness can only be attributed to the work of God in the lives of the believers who consider Hope Chapel to be their home church. Our hope is to continue to stay the course, making every effort to depend on Him as we build a gospel-centered community together.
